GALLEON ADRIFTING

Gallabee’s monster song

Spent a life—time

on the Ocean.

Some thang looking

right back at my….

Pure devoution,

evil grin.

Demented hand grenade

grip within.

(guitar lick)

MONSTER IN A MIRROR!

(guitar lick)

MONSTER IN A MIRROR!

MONSTER IN A MIRROR!

MONSTER IN A MIRROR!

I’d give you some demon

but i see you already got plenty.

MONSTER IN A MIRROR!

MONSTER IN A MIRROR

MONSTER IN A MIRROR!

(repeat until hoarse)

Galleon had been adrift again….

Her latest propaganda-mare had made her feel like she was the end of time itself and this Fairy girl was now left stuck awake at the stillest, latest hour of the night. The time when the city roar on the other side of the curvy walls, which was the tree-hanging cocoon her family lived in, was at its most sedate version of restlessness.

It had been a disturbing dream, the most disconcerting dream for any Fairy to have.

She’d dreamt about being an out of control sorceress-slash- musician, tearing up the universe with her bluesy power wails. A quadrillion, trillion, billion, million, member- strong mobile-fairy-orchestra twanging the cosmos’s heartstrings with her. She hadn’t been able to stop herself singing such heart-breaking, universe-shattering music. In fact, She hadn’t wanted to stop herself either.

Now shaken fully awake by the aftermath, ears still ringing, Gally rested uneasy, terrified of falling asleep and returning to that apocalyptic state of being.

In the Sosighcity of Too Many Tribes, Fairy families often lived in the oddest of places. Gally’s family shrine was no exception to that rule, being a glowing lantern that hung from a strawberry tree over a mountain precipice, far above the throbbing neon-glow of twisted Sosighcity streets below. Tonight a stiff, smoky, spirited-breeze was making the glass of walls of her home tinkle tunefully with a light melody, as its hanging-basket-like chains gently swung it from side to side in a gusty, squeaky rhythm.

But there was a storm inside Gally’s mind, that no rocking chair wind could soother. Post dream, she was having to navigate raging, emotionally-swollen sky-currents of sentences, now coming at her from every angle, strangling her free spirit, taking all her energy away, even the energy to sleep. These voices of derision, conversing inside her mental multiverse, kept on coming out of nowhere, one compounding on top of another, ganging up on her, squeezing even the possibility of any joy right now and a swift return to dreamland.

‘Whats the point of life… Why am I here? Where is this here?’ these voices secretly raged, crashing against the shore of her broken will, ‘What is this here? What’s it all about? Who am i? Who am I going to be? Whats the point of it all? Whats going to happen to me? Why aren’t I happy? I don’t think anyone likes me. What if I die unhappy? I don’t want to die.  What if a war starts and everything I love is gone and I’m left alone in the wreckage? I’m so afraid of loosing everyone, Gally .. What’s dying like?  Am I just a somethingy-nothingy waiting to find out what it’s like to die?…’

All these anvils of anxiety were getting tangled up like a tonne of wild hair upon her shoulders, pulling her deeper and deeper, down great trunks of tunnels made up of sentences with multiple endless meanders with no resolution in sight. She was quickly becoming paralysed to escape these monsters of self doubt. They were stalking her along elephant-legged rail carriages of endless negative thoughts. It was all becoming too much to bear yet there seemed to no hope of getting out the way of this dark Ellee-train of despair about trumphant straight into her.

Thats was it! Gally jango-hammered her limbs back to life, peeling herself, and all that waist length hair of hers, off the pile of pillows she had been trying to sleep on. In desperation she started to crawl over the other members of her family who lay sleeping around her in one of those pillow-huddles that Fairy families often slept in.

Gally’s mother lay at the centre of this pile of little bodies, her familiar features caught in glorious late night Turkish-lantern light of their home. This adult Fairy was in a huddle with two of Gally’s siblings, wrapped up in a love-blanket of limbs and snoring mouths.

‘Mummo…mumoo?’ She whispered towards the face that always brought her instant calm to know was there whenever she wanted a good cry.

‘Shut up, Gally!’ one of her mother’s blanket-guardians grumbled in their half-sleep.

Gally frowned at her little sister and now pressed her mother, clawing at her sleeping costume.

‘What is this life all about? I have to know’  She whined, determined not to be put off, ‘who are we? Just what is a Fairy? Why are we here? Who I am, really? Who are you, really? what’s the point of it all…really?’

‘She can’t hear you!’ the other blanket sibling snorted as he cupped his hands over their mother’s ears.

‘Who are they?’ She looked at her brother with a disgusted face. ‘Sometimes I don’t feel like I’m related to them at all….’

The brother yawned with a dismissive face and Gally recoiled, feeling as if his mouth had become a great void that would suck her in if she got too close.

She looked back to her mother again who was finally stirring a little. The mother took in a deep breath and her eyes opened just a crack. But before she could speak all Gally could hear coming out her of was a great crashing ocean of rhythm and melody. Suddenly, her mother’s mouth had become a vast vacuuming black hole and, much to her horror, Galleon Adrift was abruptly sucked into this chasm.

In an instant Gally had been transported to some absolute elsewhere. She could feel her back cushioned by a furry bed of moss, as her eyes gazed skywards to find the most immensely beautiful sky of stars. She’d found herself lying on a boulder-beached mountain top of broken-stone-tiped ridges, grassy shoulders unfolding in petrified waves  down  towards the distant roar of an ocean which was flowing into the back of a mountain-lined bay of craggy inlets.

After a few moments, which felt like an eternity, she realised that she wasn’t quite alone in this inter-dimensional dream-vacation wilderness. She could sense this other presense against the stars.

A skyship floated above the peak, half musical instrument, half sky-creature with multiple limbs that strummed its harp-like hull body like some kind celestial musicanship with lotus petals for propellors. Up on the pointy stupa of this ship’s mastk a lively silhouette swung their own Fairy limbs from side to side in some eternal dance.

‘Alright Gally?’ a  warm and funky voice blurted out of this silhouette, diction searing with ecstatic joy as if this fellow had been up at all hours dancing his heart out across the stars and would dance for the rest of time if given the opportunity. ‘are you resting uncomfortably?’ His words rang out all around her, ‘ Oh well, best we begin then. There now follows a brief Fairy yoga session, you’re gonna feel a way better soon.’

The musicanship now proceeded to press the palms of one pair of its winged hands together in devotion while the fairy man onboard released a peace-filled explosion of air.

‘Breathe ouuuuut like its your last gasp of air and you’re about to die…. breathe in again like a new born taking its first breath at dawn of time.

The Pain is only good, it drives you always toward the eternal joy within. Let these words give your heart lift so that you can dream your nearest flat stretch into a  runaway for your to imagination to take flight from. Let your arms become your wings, Gally, you feet your rudder, your mouth your engine drone.

Breathing in, take off into the twilight sky of your deepest desire. Let the streets fall away as you leave lonely night villages twinkling below in the dying light of all self doubt. As you breathe out again soar towards the stars, follow the roll of the  mountains out along the edge of the bay towards the thunderous ocean horizon of eternal possibility.

Breathe in the wild imagination that you really are, breathe out all that poison you thought you were , and let your wing arms take you deeper higher, home, out there in the cosmos of your truly limitless being!

Breathe out the last of that smoky Sosighcity breath! Breathe in your eternal breath as the Fairy you always were!
